Former Dell Axim User,
by FREDDIEP, 2010-07-30
Good product...BUT battery life is an issue. Used a Dell Axim for the past 5 years. Unfortunatley, Dell no longer sells a pocket pc. My only beef is that if a task is planned and it appears on the pocket pc, you better dismiss it as it will drain the battery if you do not. Called HP for support and the only solution they could offer was to stop all functions at the end of the day. (My Dell would go into a hibernation state if I did not dismiss the task. The HP does no do this.....
Never perfect but does a nice job,

I havnt found an easy way to back up this device yet. I havent gotten down to using the wifi much so wouldnt comment on it. The screen is fantastic. Music playback is reasonable. Videos look beautiful on the nice screen. The battery life is amazing for a user like me who uses it for reference only. It can last for up to five days with off and on music playback. On the whole it is a sturdy machine and worth its price. If anything new comes up, I will be writing again on the forum. I have had this machine for over a couple of months now. I was a little apprehensive initially when I bought the machine since I had ordered it online anomonously and had asked a friend to carry it for me to asia from the states. This is always a risk with the limited after sales service and exchange facility.I have found it to be a brilliant machine designed for people like me who wish to use it frequently for academic reference. It is light, good looking and fits in a white coat's upper pocket which is really helpful.
Overall, I like my iPAQ 111 pretty well,
by DONH439, 2010-07-24
Had a little trouble getting the wireless LAN connectivity up and running. It took a phone call to HP Support, where a nice support person talked me through doing a "soft reset" on the unit, after which all was well.
I've added a couple of apps, and the download and installation process is acceptable (though not quite as smooth as I might like.)
The WLAN feature seems to work fine now, at home, at work, and in the places where free wireless is available.
The screen is big enough for me (though not as big as the 211 screen!), and the resolution is just fine.
All in all, I'm satisfied with this item.
Kinda Sorta,

Is the iPAQ as described? Yes.
Was it received in a timely manner? Yes. Actually, it arrived sooner than expected.
Yes, the iPAQ is as described. Do I like it? Not much.
My Palm Pilot Zire 72 was much more what I needed, but they are not sold any more. The programs that run on the iPAQ and its Windows Mobile 6 don't seem to work anywhere else and what I have on my Windows XP won't run on it. Very frustrating. What I miss the most is the camera that was built in to my Zire 72. With everything else the iPAQ does, that should have been an easy feature to include.
My biggest complaint with the iPAQ is what the seller's information did NOT say. It will not back up my critical information to my home computer [not even my contact list, notes, calendar, etc!] unless I use Outlook Express - which I wouldn't use if my life depended on it. So, I can't back up my information to my computer at all, easily, as I could with Palm Pilot's easy to install software.
My second big complaint with the iPAQ is that it does NOT come with a manual. The manual is "built-in" to the hardware, supposedly. But it is clumsy and confusing to try to figure out and not 'intuitively obvious' to me, since I don't use M$ products if I can help it. Granted, what I need is a modern day 10-year-old to SHOW me how to use most modern-day technology, but this product is worse than most in that regard.
The calendar happens to be the best part of the entire product and what I needed most. But the Zire color-coded appointments for me and the iPAQ does not.
With the totally confusing instructions that are outside of my expertise and no manual, I have yet to be able to use the wireless OR the blue-tooth, which is one of the reasons I chose the iPAQ. It still won't 'talk' to my phone or my computer. I have yet to be able to transfer programs to the 2 GB memory card I installed.
Basically, what I have is a VERY expensive calendar on which I can play Solitaire if I get bored!
Requires Outlook,

As a long time HP handheld device user (200LX and Jornada) looked forward to the iPAQ, only to come to the realization that the iPAQ is essentially a business tool and requires Outlook. As a retired guy, I now use Yahoo for my email. Bottom line returned the iPAQ and picked up a iPOD Touch for Contacts and Notes. Miss the Jornada's folder and file structure for Notes, but it's time to more on.
